Niche Research: Ideas Where You Least Expect Them
If you’re trying to start an online business you’ve probably been scouring all the usual places to do your niche research. Places like eBay pulse, 43 things, Amazon.com, just to name a few. But sometimes you don’t have to look any further than your own home to get a good supply of ideas.
Just last week I started making a note of all the places I found ideas for possible niche markets so I thought I’d share them with you. Maybe it will jump start your niche research and open up some new sources you hadn’t thought of before.
I still like to read newspapers (I hope they never truly become extinct!) and besides my local daily I also read the USA Today. Last week I found several news articles that gave me some ideas:
“Exercise games better than just TV”
keywords for niches:
exercise games (18,100 monthly searches)
exercise game (9,900)
video games exercise (1,900)
dance revolution playstation 2 (8,100) (lots of keyword variations for this one)
wii sports games (49,500)
childhood and obesity (12,100)
“Extended sleep may give athletes a boost”
sleep disorder treatment (2,400)
sleep benefits (5,400)
From my local paper:
“Crucial steps to shielding your private data”
online protection (49,500)
online identity theft (6,600)
“Tips for packing light”
packing for a trip (4,400)
how to pack a suitcase (5,400)
vacation packing (14,800)
“Yoga, A Breath of Fresh Air For Beginner Athletes”
yoga for beginners (90,500)
yoga poses for beginners (2,900)
These are just a few I selected to show you the searches for. I also added these articles to my list:
“Fight Fat with Sleep,” “Think Yourself Fit,” “Eat More Whole Grains,” “Best Natural Stress Relief,” “Teach Kids To Spend Wisely,” “Is Your Complexion Aging Too Fast?” and “Have the eco-wedding of your dreams.”
One other idea source — I received a Publisher’s Clearing House ad in the mail — you know the ones with all the little magazine stickers? I looked through all the magazines listed and jotted down a few niche specific titles to some keyword research on later.
You can be doing niche research as you go about your normal daily routine. If you can’t cut out articles just keep a notepad handy to write down ideas as you come across them — they will escape you later if you wait!
